SSHnet has a central mailserver which has to be used when sending email using SMTP. This has been configured in order to avoid vulnerabilities, that may arise from running your own SMTP server.
When using nothing but webmail (like gmail.com, hotmail.com, etc.), this does not apply and you may skip reading this section.
Settings of your email software
Configure in your email ‘client’ software (such as Eudora, Outlook, Thunderbird, Opera Mail, etc.):
- outgoing mail server: smtp.sshnet.nl
- port number: 25 (no encryption or using TLS) or 465 (using SSL)
In SSHnet the DNS port (port number 53) is inaccessible from outside. This has been done to mitigate vulnerabilities of any DNS servers running on equipment of tenants.
